The 2013 Herring Spawn, off the Qualicum Beach Seawall, in the Georgia Strait began March 2, Saturday, at 4 p.m.
Orcas off Neck Point Park
On our Saturday afternoon walk through Neck Point Park in Nanaimo, one of my favorite birding walks, birds gave way to whales. A pod of Orcas (killer whales) romping offshore provided the next hour's entertainment for birds and people alike.

And a Real Snow!
First Night, a monthly event every first Friday, in which local Missoula art galleries open for evening perusal brought the first real snow. The festive Friday evening turned into a sunny, mild Saturday, for more enjoyment of the white beauty.
Snow in Missoula
Yesterday afternoon big, soft snowflakes finally fell briefly. It seemed to announce the end of the mild early winter and announce Christmas is around the corner.
