Sandhill Crane

Sandhill Crane protecting its nest
The perfect evening ride was past the wetlands north of Blind River, Ontario. Wetlands come alive as dusk approaches. True to our expectations, a Sandhill Crane walked along the road. But when it saw us it began its protection routine: pacing back and forth across about 100 feet in front of the nest we never saw, and squawking its guard call loudly enough to be heard in the next county. Knowing it is bad behaviour on our part to disturb it, as we obviously were, we left it in peace. What a beautiful sight watching nature at work.
