2013 Herring Spawn
The 2013 Herring Spawn, off the Qualicum Beach Seawall, in the Georgia Strait began March 2, Saturday, at 4 p.m.
The first Sunday of fishing exceeded expectations. Tens of skeiners and skiffs along with tens of sea lions and seals, thousands of sea gulls, and a few Bald eagles watched in anticipation of a sumptuous meal. The annual excitement is about a little silver fish caught by the tons for its roe for the Japanese market. A few pictures help tell of the frenzy.
