Yearn to Wander

Seattle and Beyond

After soaking in the beauties of Oregon, we spent a couple weeks in and around Seattle. Unlike other cities, we checked out some neighborhoods rather than the City Center, where we'd been before. It was an interesting city, and we look forward to seeing more of it later.

From Seattle, we crossed the state, west to east, in a day: from the east shore of Puget Sound to the Snake River, the border with Idaho. We crossed the Cascade Range, covered with conifer forests. From there, the mountains gave way to the high desert, where fruit is king. Apples, peaches, cherries, et al and vineyards cover the landscape. East of Yakima, fruit gave way to field crops, like wheat and forage crops until we reached the Snake River and the Idaho border at Lewiston.

The wheat fields, harvested or not, provided spectacular golden color against the clear blue sky and the autumn sun.
